Overview

The hill of Barcelona's bunkers is the best panoramic place in town. The bunkers are located on top of a hill that is 262 meters above the sea level and that is located almost close to the center of the city. From the top of the hill one can have a 360 degrees view, which is something absolutely exclusive. From the bunkers it is possible to see and take pictures of the whole city. That includes Sagrada Familia; the Agbar tower; the towers of Port Olimpic; Barcelona's port; all the hills around Barcelona; Montjuic hill; Tibidabo mountain; Barcelona's airport.
Not so many people know about this place that is easy to reach only by someone that really knows the area.

What To Expect

We'll walk up to the Barcelona Bunkers through a panoramic path. The place is also known as Turó de la Rovira. Along the way I will tell you about the Spanish Civil War and how Barcelona was the key city at that time. During our walk and once we are at the top of the hill you will have the opportunity to take amazing pictures of the whole city, since the hill has a unique 360 degrees view over Barcelona and its surroundings.
The Barcelona's bunkers were anti aerial installations built by the Spanish Republican Army in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War in order to protect the city from the attacks carried by the Italian and German aviation that supported the Fascist troupes.
The place is very important for the city of Barcelona from an historical point of view and it's a unique viewpoint over the city.

Parc del Guinardo

On our way back we will explore a beautiful terraced park characterized by the presence of the typical Mediterranean vegetation. There I will tell you about the story of Roque-Guinard, a local bandit from the XVII century that used to live in that area, and who was mentioned in the famous book Don Quijote written by Miguel de Cervantes.

Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau

After that, we'll walk to Hospital Sant Pau, that is one of the most important modernist monuments in Barcelona and a Unesco World Heritage site. Once there, we'll contemplate the complexity and the beauty of its facade from the outside.

This tour is a perfect way to discover the city from a different point of view. During the experience Gianni take you in a journey not only in barcelona but also in its history and culture.
I really enjoyed the tour and The guide, Gianni, was well and deeply prepared and he could answer to our questions. He’s a really nice guy, i enjoyed spending time with him!

The walk was great, and the host knows so much about the history, the politics in Spain, and also about the buildings you're able to see from the bunkers. He was able to tell us so much about the architecture of some places as well. I really wish I would have booked this at the beginning of my trip, rather than at the end, because it made me look at the city in such a different way.

Gianni is a friendly and knowledgeable tour guide who provided a lot of historical detail on our hike to the Bunkers and descent to Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau. We stopped at numerous viewpoints that had incredible views of Barcelona. Gianni answered all of our questions and provided unique insights as well.

The total hike up and descent takes a little more than two hours.

As a solo traveler, I would highly recommend this tour!
